Assess loaded contact as a complete interface

Bronze-filled compounds are candidates for parts that need a different load response from unfilled PTFE. The exact formulation and mating surface determine the useful operating range.

For a seal or guide, include pressure, extrusion clearance and movement. Those inputs determine whether the compound and geometry work together in the housing.

Include the metal in the compatibility review

The PTFE matrix does not remove the chemical characteristics of bronze. Process media and cleaning agents must be assessed against the complete compound.

Metal additions also change heat transfer and electrical behavior. An insulating part cannot inherit virgin PTFE electrical assumptions after bronze is introduced.

Grade Selection Questions

Can bronze-filled material replace virgin PTFE in any chemical duty?

No. The metallic filler can limit compatibility. Review the actual chemical and conditions against the supplied compound.

Is a bronze-filled sleeve a sintered bronze bearing?

No. It is a PTFE-matrix compound with bronze filler. A metal bearing has a different structure and specification.
