Material composition & selection

PTFE Grades

Choose PTFE by composition and function. Compare unfilled, filled and expanded constructions against the load, contact media, motion and electrical requirements of the component.

Select the Material Family

A grade defines the material. A product drawing defines the shape made from that material. Select both for a complete procurement requirement.

01

Virgin PTFE

Unfilled PTFE for chemical-contact and electrical-insulation components. Review creep, sustained loading and purity documentation before selecting the grade.

02

Filled PTFE

Compare filled PTFE compounds for wear, load, creep and thermal behavior. Select the actual filler system and composition rather than a generic filled grade.

03

Glass Filled PTFE

Glass-filled PTFE for components where wear and deformation under load drive grade selection. Include the mating surface and chemical exposure in the review.

04

Carbon Filled PTFE

Carbon-filled PTFE compounds for sliding and seal components. Identify the carbon form, any graphite blend and the required electrical behavior.

05

Bronze Filled PTFE

Bronze-filled PTFE for loaded wear and sealing components. Evaluate the metallic filler against the fluid, counterface and electrical requirements.

06

Graphite Filled PTFE

Graphite-filled PTFE for sliding interfaces and seal components. Select the formulation with the counterface, lubrication and contamination limits in view.

07

Expanded PTFE

Expanded PTFE sheet and joint-sealant forms for compliant static sealing. Specify flange condition, compression and the material construction for the joint.

Use the right selection route

Composition First, Component Fit Next

Unfilled PTFE, a specified filled compound and expanded gasket material address different duties. A grade label alone does not define the finished part or an assembly rating.

Material grades and supplied constructions

Glass-filled PTFE is a compound. PTFE coated fiberglass fabric is a textile with a coated surface. Their shared material names do not make them interchangeable.

Use the product catalog for fabrics, tapes, films and belts; use this grade library for the polymer construction specified in a PTFE component.
