Composition & material selection

Glass Filled PTFE

Glass-filled PTFE for components where wear and deformation under load drive grade selection. Include the mating surface and chemical exposure in the review.

  • Glass filler in a PTFE matrix
  • Used to modify wear and compressive response
  • Glass compatibility checked separately from PTFE

Use reinforcement where load response matters

Glass-filled compounds are considered when an unfilled part changes shape or wears too quickly under its mechanical duty. The selected composition defines the improvement and its limits.

A bearing sleeve, guide ring and valve seat do not impose the same contact condition. Give the loaded area and motion so the grade is selected for the interface.

Check both chemical and sliding interfaces

The glass filler introduces chemical considerations beyond those of the base polymer. Hydrofluoric acid and strong-base environments require a different compatibility assessment.

For sliding contact, include the counterface finish and hardness. Reinforcing filler can affect the mating surface, so assess the wear pair rather than the PTFE component in isolation.

Grade Selection Questions

Is glass-filled PTFE the same as PTFE coated fiberglass fabric?

No. The compound disperses glass filler in PTFE. Coated fabric uses a woven glass carrier with a PTFE surface.

Does glass content define the full grade?

No. Additional fillers and the resin and stock form also affect behavior. Use the complete compound specification.
