Composition & material selection

Carbon Filled PTFE

Carbon-filled PTFE compounds for sliding and seal components. Identify the carbon form, any graphite blend and the required electrical behavior.

  • Carbon powder and fiber systems distinguished
  • Wear and thermal behavior evaluated by compound
  • Electrical resistance specified when relevant

Identify the carbon system

Carbon-filled is not a complete compound designation. Powder, fiber and carbon-graphite mixtures differ, so the supplied material must be identified before comparing performance.

For moving seals and sliding parts, define the contact motion and lubrication. A property improvement in one test arrangement does not establish an identical result in another machine.

Specify electrical behavior explicitly

Carbon additions can change electrical conductivity. If the part must dissipate charge or remain insulating, state the resistance requirement and test conditions.

Black color does not prove a carbon formulation or a static-control rating. Pigmented PTFE and carbon compounds need separate identification and documentation.

Grade Selection Questions

Is black PTFE always carbon-filled?

No. A black appearance can come from pigment or different filler systems. Identify the compound rather than using color as a material specification.

Can carbon-filled PTFE be assumed anti-static?

No. Specify the resistance range and test method required by the application; the filler name alone is insufficient.
