Composition & material selection

Graphite Filled PTFE

Graphite-filled PTFE for sliding interfaces and seal components. Select the formulation with the counterface, lubrication and contamination limits in view.

  • Graphite filler or an identified mixed compound
  • Sliding contact and friction guide selection
  • Counterface condition included in the specification

Select the wear pair

Graphite-containing compounds are considered for sliding duties where the contact surface and lubrication affect friction and wear. Their behavior still depends on load and speed.

A soft mating surface needs a different review from a hard shaft. Provide the counterface material and finish rather than selecting only from a nominal friction description.

Keep blends and process requirements visible

Graphite often appears in mixed compounds. A carbon-graphite or glass-graphite formulation should retain its full designation so it is not confused with graphite-only PTFE.

Where cleanliness or electrical behavior matters, request the relevant grade data. Neither appearance nor a self-lubricating description establishes suitability for every process.

Specific answers

Grade Selection Questions

Does graphite eliminate the need for lubrication assessment?

No. The actual load, speed and counterface determine the sliding condition, including whether dry operation is suitable.

Is graphite-filled identical to carbon-filled PTFE?

No. The names describe different filler choices or blends. Match the complete formulation when replacing a part.
